I am so excited about summer. For the first time in years, I’m excited about summer for me. Not for my kid. Not for my family. I’m excited for me.
This summer is going to be a bit different because for about 3 weeks, I will be kid free. Yup, J is heading down south for a couple of weeks to hang out with the other side of her family and later in the summer she’ll be going away to camp for a week. Couple that with the fact that J has been making friends, attending parties, going to sleepovers, etc, it’s like she really doesn’t need the constant go go go summer that we usually try to provide. She’s spreading her wings and I’m spreading mine.
Adult Summer Bucket List
So why an adult summer bucket and not just a regular ol’ bucket list? Well because almost every summer bucket list I come across is family or kid-centric, and the type of summer I’m trying to have just doesn’t include them. Parents need time away from their kids. Spouses need time away from their spouse. It’s just natural and I’m taking full advantage of it. Heck, my family may have to send a search party to find me the way I’m trying to get my life this summer.
I haven’t finished my adult summer bucket list yet, but here is a list of things you can include on yours if you decide to make one:
- Take a solo road trip
- See an outdoor concert
- Attend a festival
- Host a dinner party
- Visit a karaoke bar and perform
- Go on a bar walk or visit a beer garden
- Grill a cocktail
- Drink something out of a coconut or pineapple
- Build a bonfire—sit around it and drink whiskey
- Take a solo vacation
- Go to a drive-in movie
- Get a massage by yourself or with your significant other
- Spend a whole day in bed
- Go skinny-dipping
- Sleep naked with the windows open
- Have “fun” in a random place
