Working Weekends

WorkingWeekendsx

Workin’ Weekends is a series that goes beyond the Monday through Friday, 9 to 5 grind. What does a working mom’s weekend really look like? If you’re a working mom like me, the weekends are for fun, food, and family. In that order. Just kidding; food comes first. Be sure to follow along on Instagram as well.

This weekend was three days, but it certainly didn’t feel like it. Was it just me, or did the weekend fly by? It was like, first it was Friday and then I looked up and it was Monday and I was preparing to go back to work!

But I digress. I’m just happy to get the time off to spend time with my family because that’s all that really matters (besides food). Here’s a recap of my weekend.

Friday

On Friday, the day started off like any other day. I got up, got ready for work, and Hubz helped Jam get ready for school. I so love that he’s off on Fridays and can pitch in with the morning routine, especially since we finally got a second car…again. Life is just easier knowing that I’ll have some help on Fridays. Too bad that’s about to end. Yay for the new job, but womp womp to losing my Friday help. Anywho, later in the day, Hubz surprised me with lunch at Dinker’s Bar and it was ah-mazing! This was only my second time eating at Dinker’s; it did not disappoint. Hubz got the jalapeño burger and I got the cheeseburger and onion rings. Yum!

In addition to good food, my company was pretty awesome too. I love these lunch dates with Hubz because they give us time to connect sans the kid. Grownups need that, you know.

Saturday

Saturday was a whirlwind. Since Jam’s birthday was earlier in the week, we planned all the festivities for Saturday, with the exception of her classroom birthday party. We don’t have the space (or I didn’t want to make the space) for a full out birthday party, so she chose a classroom party, getting her hair done, some new clothes, and a “modeling” session…aka a photo session with a professional photographer. So Saturday morning, Jam and I headed to the beauty shop. She was so excited…until the work started. Before I go on, let me just say that my kid has some thick, thick hair and it’s long. When I wash, condition, detangle, and style her hair, it normally takes me anywhere from 2-4 hours…on a good day. Needless to say, wash days are not our favorite days. I hoped that Jam’s experience at the beauty shop would be different, but alas, nah. Tears, tangles, and tantrums (and possibly trauma) is all I can really say.

Little girl's first time at the beauty salon. There were tears.

The finished product though?! We were both in love with it. It’s so funny seeing my baby girl with straight hair, after looking at her curly mane all these years. It was a welcomed change though. I secretly can’t wait for the kinks and curls to return.

AfterSalon

After the beautification, it was time for pictures! And ya’ll, I can’t recommend our photographer, Kitty from Lady Grey Photography, enough. She’s amazing and so creative! She and Jam came up with some great stuff, some of which I’ll be sharing soon. If you’re looking to get some professional pictures done, be sure to check her out. Hubz and I are sooo happy with the finished product and Jam and I had an excellent experience with Kitty!

Monday

Yep, I’m skipping Sunday because we literally did nothing all day. We were so worn out from the day before that we chilled for most of the day. On Monday, though, we were a little busier, but not much. We hung out most of the day, after eating breakfast at 2pm (because, why not?) and watching movies on the couch. Thank goodness for Redbox on these lazy Mondays!

After grocery shopping and stealing a nap in Hubz’ lap while he watched John Wick, I got up, rallied my troops, and we went out for dinner. We had a blast and I’ll be sharing a bit more this week in my next Out and About in Omaha. I’ll give you a hint with three words: wings and rings.

So yeah. Those were the highlights of our weekend. Nothing too spectacular (other than hair and pictures), but fun nonetheless. I tried to leave out all the non-fun stuff like laundry, cleaning, errands, etc. I mean, ick to that!

How was your 3-day weekend?
